Establishment panic over Labour voters – come and hear the socialist case against the EU

The capitalist establishment in Britain and internationally are starting to panic about the result of the EU referendum.

They are especially concerned at polling evidence that working class Labour voters, in particular, are reluctant to come out and save the Tory government from what will be a shattering defeat. Now the media focus will be on Labour voters, starting with Gordon Brown’s ‘relaunch’ of the Remain campaign, to try and intimidate them by any means possible from voting Leave.

That’s why it is important, in the days that are left before June 23rd, to get the widest hearing possible for the socialist arguments against the ‘Employers’ Union’ that is the EU, with its austerity agenda.

The Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition (TUSC) launched its 25-city tour of TUSC-hosted meetings, under the heading ‘The Socialist Case Against the EU’, in mid-May. There have been meetings so far in Derby, Leicester, Gateshead, Carlisle, Bristol, London, Coventry, Peterborough, Birmingham, Leeds, Salford, Southampton and Cardiff.

There have been speakers from all the constituent organisations of TUSC – the RMT transport workers union, the Socialist Party and the SWP – and representatives of other trade union and socialist organisations putting a working class case against the EU.

Speakers at the meetings have included Mick Cash, the RMT general secretary; former president, Peter Pinkney and regional organiser Mick Tosh; the president of the BFAWU bakers’ union Ian Hodson; London FBU secretary Paul Embury and other speakers from the Trade Unionists Against the EU (TUAEU) campaign group.

The remaining dates of the tour meetings can be found at https://www.tusc.org.uk/events. But if you want to organise something in your area, there’s still time.
