Bloodbath budget capitulation to the markets at expense of workers and poor
Public sector general strike on the cards
Trade Unionist & Socialist Coalition calls on TUC to name the date for a national trade union demonstration
Dave Nellist, former Labour MP and Socialist Party councillor in Coventry, says, “the government drew the battle lines yesterday. This cabinet of millionaires, acting on behalf of international financiers and speculators – the so-called ‘markets’ - has made it clear that working people will pay the price for the bankers mess.”
“We are not all in this together! The headlines in this budget that are supposed to make the rich pay their ‘fair’ share are little more than window dressing. It is workers, young people, parents, the sick and disabled who will have their living standards shattered.”
“This will not go unanswered. A consensus has not been built on the issue. If anything the vast majority of people I speak to reject the idea that cuts are necessary. TUSC will be at the forefront of organising workers, in particular public sector trade unionists, against these cuts. A public sector general strike is likely to develop at some stage as they have across Europe. Greece will come to Britain!”
